Is it possible to random access an MPEG file?
The DVM2 has the capability to emulate a Chapter Search or Search to Address function similar to that in Pioneer Laserdisc/DVD protocols. Each video file is numbered. This number serves as the index for the file so that, for example, file 1 can be searched by issuing a 1SE[CR]. The DVM2 does not search to random points in a video file. When absolute random frame access is not necessary, some of our customers simply make hundreds of chapters to give a better granularity to the intervals at which they can jump into the program. The DVM2 can play these chapters back seamlessly using playlists, so splitting a large file into several small files presents no problems.
