If you are calling during normal office hours (Monday-Friday 9:00am - 6:00pm EST) and you get the Auto-attendant (that annoying voice that say's 'Welcome to Alcorn McBride. If you know...') it means the Operator is answering other lines or is away from the desk.
It is best to use the directory and try the person's extension (see below) or leave a message in the correct department voice mail.
