Why won't my Binloop record?

There are several reasons why you may be unable to record to your Binloop. First, make sure that your Binloop is equipped with record-capable Reproducer cards. You can verify which type of Reproducer cards you have simply by removing the front panel (remove four screws in the front corners) and sliding them out of the card cage to take a look. Make sure that power is disconnected before doing this. There are three basic types of Reproducer cards: Repro2 cards, Repro5 cards, and Repro24 cards. Only the Repro2 and Repro24 cards can be configured to record. You cannot record using Repro5 cards. Repro5 cards have a label along the edge of the PC board that says 'Repro5'. The board also contains two somewhat large coils near one end of the backplane connector. If you have these types of Reproducers in your Binloop, you only have playback capability and cannot record to them. Repro2 cards can be configured to record, and can be identified by a label along the edge of the PC board that says 'Repro 2'. To see if it is configured to record, make sure that there is a large 28-pin IC installed which has the label 'CS8412-CP'. It is located near the backplane edge connector. The board must also have a transformer installed in the spot also located near the edge connector Repro24 cards can also be configured to record, and contain four large coil type devices located near the board edge connector. The board is made up of mostly surface-mount devices. There are no distinguishing 'Repro24' labels on the board. To verify that the board is configured to record be sure that there is a surface mount device installed in the U30 spot (get out the magnifying glass) that has the label 'CS8414-CS'. Also required is a small transformer in the spot located near the edge connector. If you've verified that your Binloop is indeed equipped with record capable Reproducer cards, you may have a jumper or two set wrong. Each record capable Reproducer contains jumpers which select between S/PDIF or AES/EBU digital recording input formats. Refer to the Digital Binloop User Manual for information on how to set these jumpers for your particular input format. Another thing to check is the pinout of your digital audio input connector(s). Again, check the Digital Binloop User Manual to verify proper connections. A good thing to try before attempting to record is to use the Audio Monitor feature of the Binloop which passes audio from the digital audio input to the analog output. Connect up your digital audio source and monitor the analog output of the selected Reproducer and click on the 'Monitor' button in the 'Record Audio Segment' window in Binloop.exe. The selected Reproducer should illuminate the Red led and you should hear the audio from the corresponding output on the Binloop.
