Can I connect Alcorn McBride video players to an LCD Screen?
Yes, the players can be used to drive various LCD screens such as TFT screens. The standard definition players output NTSC or PAL frequencies, so only an LCD that accepts component or composite video at these frequencies will work. Many desktop PC monitors will not sync to these standard video f ...
Can the DVMHD play 24p encoded material?
Yes. It will convert the 24p encodings to the specified format (1080i30, 720p60, etc.) during playback. Please refer to the DVM/HD manual for a complete list of supported formats.
During playback, the screen occasionally goes to black, or the unit repeats frames. What's wrong?
These problems are symptoms of a buffer underflow error. This is caused when the stream reports that it should be played at a particular bitrate, but it does not provide enough information within itself to be played at that rate. This problem can occasionally be eliminated by remultiplexing the ...
HD-SDI Cable Length
The limiting factor in cable length has less to do with the DVMHD-Pro output, but more related to the display device (or cable equalizer) at the receive end. Assuming a high-quality input circuit, the maximum cable length recommended is 100m of Belden 8281 or 140m of Belden 1694. It's important ...
How do I terminate the video sync signal on a DVM/HD?
By default, the DVM/HD is configured to terminate the sync input with a 75 ohm load. However, this termination can be removed with a configuration jumper if necessary. This 2-pin jumper is located on the DVM/HD Decoder Card inside the DVM/HD chassis. The jumper header is directly beside the gold ...
I cannot select two clips in a row on the DVM/HD without getting the E12 error.
If you can play the bitstream repeatedly without problems but have to cycle power between viewings make sure that your DVMHD serial controller is not adding Line Feeds to each Carriage Return (a common happening). That might explain why you can't search two in a row.
I've connected my display to the DVM/HD, but I don't see any video. What's wrong?
The DVM/HD has 2 HD15 connectors. One is the PC VGA output, and the other is the HD Video connector. Make sure that your video cable is connected to the 'HD Video Out' connector. If you are connected to the correct output and are still not seeing video (but hear audio), make sure that both the H ...

The quality of my HD material is not what I expected, what can I do?
As with any digital video system, the output quality depends on the source material, bitrate, output hardware, and display. The following list describes the most common reasons for unacceptable output quality on the DVM/HD: 1. Source material must be of high resolution and low compression. Commo ...
Video files on my DVM/HD play correctly when played alone, but not in a playlist. Why?
The files must have identical encoding parameters to be played seamlessly. The DVM/HD defaults to 'seamless' mode when clips are placed sequentially in a playlist, concatenating the files during playback. If the encoding parameters (bitrate, picture size, frame rate, etc.) are different between ...
Video Signal Distribution
Normally, anything over about 3 meters should be avoided unless a video distribution amplifier is used. Many companies make them, including Video Accessory Corporation (www.vac-brick.com).
What device should I use to generate the synchronization signal for multiple DVMHDs?
